When I first heard I was going to interview one of this internationally renowned company’s executives, I thought it would be a very formal occasion and that I’d have to choose my words carefully. This was truly an important moment.

I arrived at Maritur DMC’s headquarter office and in the waiting room, a receptionist came to me and said: “He’s already waiting for you”, which made me think I was about to find a high handed business man with little or no time.

Unlike what I imagined, Mr. Sabin –Maritur DMC’s USA representative- greeted me with a sincere smile and a friendly handshake, in order to let me interview him and learn more about his extensive career in the tourism sector.

Born in Texas, Walter Neil Sabin –who usually goes by Neil– grew up in Mexico City, attended the Universidad de Las Américas for his under graduate degree and then went on to Thunderbird, the prominent international business school for his Masters Degree.

After that, he began with what would become an outstanding career that has taken him to many different countries throughout Latin America, where he worked with some of the finest world-class hotel companies like The Westin Camino Real, Hilton International, Rosewood and The Fairmont Acapulco Princess.

Neil loves connecting with people, which is one of the key reasons he joined Maritur to represent them in the United States and Canada.  He easily identified himself with Maritur’s exceptional service, warm client relationships and innovative ideas.

When I asked Neil to describe Maritur in a couple of words, he said it would be “creativity and attention to detail”.  Their involvement in every activity and service offered to their clients, has been heightened by their knowledge and understanding of what Mexico has to offer its visitors.  That’s how Maritur DMC’s creativity stands out and reaches much further than other DMC’s.

The best way to explain how and why it was so important to open the new Maritur office in the USA… would be “to strengthen relationships with clients, by offering them the best service and means of communication possible”.  This shows the company’s commitment and growth into markets where top producing meeting and incentive companies are located; and has positioned Maritur as one of the few DMC’s that have dedicated offices in the US/Canada market.
